ClaimCutters was founded and is led by President & CEO Edward LaFaso, a seasoned subject matter expert in Risk Management and Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S). Edward has more than 20-years' experience running successful publicly traded entrepreneurial health and safety ventures and as a top-level big-company risk management executive.
Edward was the Sr. Director, EH&S / Risk Management, Global, for FreshDirect, New York (an Ahold Delhaize affiliate $90B), where he was the business leader with P&L responsibilities for all safety, compliance, risk policies and procedures, and claims management across system-wide operations. While there, he reduced total incidents by more than 40%, crafting and implementing a comprehensive end-to-end Loss Prevention Plan at an 800,000-square-foot, four-level manufacturing facility—the largest in New York. He cut workers comp incidents by more than 50% through unique employee health and safety training programs, risk engineering controls, and by creating an internal / external stakeholder Task Force comprising leaders, safety teams, legal counsel, medical clinics, and insurance companies. As the International Coronavirus Committee lead, he crafted the company’s award-winning CV-19 Prevention Plan, achieving a case rate among the local workforce 90% lower than the surrounding zip code. In seven months, he also increased the union-based Department of Transportation driver qualification score from zero to 100% compliance, while raising other DOT regulatory requirements to standard for thousands of CDL/drivers operating across New York City and the surrounding five states. Edward created an original employee safety observation mobile app / real-time compliance KPI dashboard that was distributed to business units worldwide to foster a “culture" of employee health & safety.
Before joining FreshDirect, Edward was Sr. Manager, EH&S / Risk Management, U.S., for GateGroup, Reston, Va. ($6B), the world’s largest foodservice, airline catering, and transportation logistics firm. He led a national team of 15 EH&S, food safety, and insurance professionals in a turnaround success, including a 20% year-over-year incident rate reduction across the U.S. for three consecutive years. As the company’s National Spokesperson / Chair of the Steering Committee responsible for developing, executing, and enforcing USDA International Regulated Trash requirements, he reduced YOY violations by more than 40% in three years, and brought other key regulatory requirements to standard. Edward closely partnered with legal and top-level executive leadership to create and execute the company’s first violation warning / response system and directly interacted with federal regulators. He directed and successfully closed both a 4-month OSHA and 6-month FDA investigation with zero findings, penalties, or fines. Edward traveled the U.S., conducting unannounced DOT transportation / NSF food quality gap analyses at operating units and worked with local leaders toward sustained audit-ready vigilance.
Previously, Edward was President & CEO of Full Body Scanning, San Diego, Calif., a publicly traded national chain of advanced diagnostic imaging centers. Prior to this, he was Director of Strategy and Communications for Sutter Health, Sacramento, Calif., a leading U.S. healthcare system, and a Communications Manager with Kraft Foods in New York. He began his career as an award-winning journalist on a major daily newspaper.
Edward earned a master’s degree in Law / Political Science from Rutgers School of Criminal Justice, Newark, N.J., and a bachelor’s degree in Communications from Ramapo College, Mahwah, N.J.
